« Previous · Main · Next » Dads and Breast Feeding-- My Husband, My Co-AuthorJune 11, 2007Welcome to the June Breastfeeding Carnival, a tribute to the Dads in our lives. At the end of this post you'll find entries from our usual cast of blogging characters, as well as some guests. As I've been talking about ad nauseam here, I've been working on a book about breastfeeding that's coming out this September. In our house, this is our "third" baby. For nearly as long as we've had kids (going on 2.5 years now), I've been working on this book. And now, it's time to give credit where credit is due-- to my silent co-author, my husband. "Da-da," as the boys call him, has encouraged me every step of the way. To begin with, he's a lactivist in his own right. He "covered" me while I breastfed on airplanes and in fancy restaurants. He brought me water while I was nursing, changed diapers in the middle of the night so I could go back to sleep, and even re-positioned an inconsolable newborn on my chest. So when I announced, one day, 5 months post-partum, that I wanted to write a book about breastfeeding, he said, "Go hire a babysitter and get to work." Along the way, he contributed his own ideas; read draft after draft; reviewed contracts; helped develop my blog; and celebrated the book sale with champagne and flowers. Now, ever the MBA, he's devising ways to sell as many books as possible. So thank you, "Da-da," for serving as an in house lactation consultant, and cheerleading me through this book process. This would not have been possible without you. Happy Father's Day. Maybe you should be the one doing any book signings! And now for the other carnival contributors: TrackBackTrackBack URL for this entry: |

Well done hubby! You make a great team and I can't wait to get hold of a copy of your new book!!
I've added it to My Favourite Products page on my site too (http://www.scarytiger.com/hosting/breastfeedingmums/recommended_products.htm)and I'm going to put a link to it elsewhere on the site and blog.
I really hope it does well for you although I have no doubt that it will!

Your husband sounds great - especially to have agree to have another "baby" so soon after the second!

That's so great! My husband is also a really great guy when it comes to breastfeeding. Now if your husband could only teach mine how to celebrate a book...

Awesome!
That's what marriage is all about - doing things together and supporting each other even when the other is doing "most" of the work. My husband has started a new business and I have been doing a lot of "behind the scenes" work for which I may or may not ever get "credit" from others. But it doesn't matter because it's all for US.
Can't wait to get your book!

I read a really good book recently about breastfeeding published in Australia called Fresh Milk, the secret life of breasts. Have you come across it? Good luck with the launch - btw I love the cover!

Ohh...I've been wanting to get a copy of Fresh Milk. Sounds like it's got some nice juicy (and funky) stuff in it, I'm sure I'd have plenty to comment on.
Andy, that's fantastic that your hubby has been so supportive. Writing is hard work, especially with little ones around. So glad you've finally finished the project though!

What a wonderful reminder to thank my baby's daddy for all the wonderful things he does for our baby, and me. By the end of a long day, it's all to easy to forget that in the hazy fog of the night, he changed a diaper, consoled our baby, or, most recently, drove our screaming baby around the abandoned city streets at 5:00 a.m. to lull him back to sleep, just so I could get in a few more minutes of sleep myself (perhaps he passed another lone car with a similarly situated father!). So, inspired by your blog entry, I will take an opportunity to say thanks to my new "dad."
