Posted by: Sally If you won, please email me your mailing address. AND HERE'S THE ORIGINAL POST: I've had allergies all spring. Either that, or a cold. Or maybe both. Who knows. I do know I sometimes get exczema, so I'm always on the lookout for "green" personal care and cleaning products. And here's my latest find...method. Actually, to be clear, method found me. Earlier this spring, the method folks emailed me asking me to host a party at their temporary store in New York City. After doing a bit of due diligence, I decided I liked the company's dedication to non-toxic products. And so, I said, sign me up. (To learn more about this, go to the bottom of the method site, click on either FAQ or Company Info.) The party wasn't your typical "tupperware" fest. In fact, there was little talk of cleaning. Instead, a "mixologist" taught us how to make organic drinks. The Liquid Muse...aka Natalie...made the best mojito I have EVER had. Ever. And fortunately, I'm not pregnant or breastfeeding, so I didn't have to consider anything other than my low tolerance. Here's the recipe for that mojito. Now for the exciting part...I have a giveaway of method's new line of baby and kids' products. You can read about them here on the method blog. The kind folks at method have put together a collection of theses items. To win, please leave a comment answering this question: What has been the most surprising part of being pregnant or a new parent? The deadline to enter this contest is June 25th. I'll be away until then, so you may not see your comment posted until I get back. TrackBackTrackBack URL for this entry: |

Biggest surprise: How suddenly I fell for my baby when he was born. I never thought much about having children until I was remarried in my late 30s, never really felt maternal, but as soon as my baby was born I was just like Holly Hunter in Raising Arizona: "I love him SO MUCH!!"

That's a hard question to answer! I think the thing I was most surprised by was the day after I brought my son home from the hospital. As I was changing his diaper he let out this crazy fart and suddenly there appeared poop on me from my neck to thighs. The surprising part was that I could still smile and be completely in love with this little creature that had just covered me in feces.

I love the method baby bath products sooo much!
The most surprising part about becoming a parent: how much my view of the world has changed, including how I both gained additional understanding for my parents and yet also felt additional confusion.

Shortly after my daughter was born my maternal instinct kicked in and since then I've been surprised at how well I've been able to tell what my daughter needs. I'm also surprised at how drastically my ideas about the "right" way to parent have changed!

The depth of my feeling of protection towards my LO. I had heard my friends talk about it and was really taken aback on how profound it is. I would do anything for him.

I would have to say the thing that suprised me the most about being a new parent was the amount of love I would feel for such a tiny little person. I am still amazed daily at how much I love my daughter and it grows more and more each day. One's love for a child is indescribable, but wonderful!! Being a parent is such a blessing and I am so blessed to get to experience it :)

To me, the most surprising thing about being pregnant is how I already feel that I know my baby so well. I just wasn't expecting the baby to have a personality so early!

The most surprising part of being a new parent.. is the unbelievable amount of love that makes me drunk every time I think of my baby girl.

I think what surprises me most (even still) is how little time I have for myself at the end of the day. Especially when my son was younger, I found myself just getting to take a shower around lunchtime which is so not typical for me. So much of my time is devoted to making sure my son is fed, changed, played with, read to, etc. etc. I forget the basics like eating, showering, etc.

The most suprising thing about being a new mom is how aware and concerned I am about what products I am using and eating knowing that its all going to my baby. I have really learned to care about myself more in caring for my baby.

I had no idea how important nursing would be to me, how I would fight for it when we faced the challenges of thrush and mastitis and how utterly irreplaceable my breasts would be to my baby. I didn't realize how quintessential nursing would be to my experience of being my son's mother.

I'm surprised to find myself doing things as a parent that I never thought I'd do, like sticking to a schedule, letting my son get himself (and me!) VERY messy during meals (without bothering to change my dirty shirt after lunch), nursing him beyond one year, and, the biggest surprise of all, taking time from my career (one year and counting) to hang out with my son. I am surprised by my pre-baby chutzpah, by the fact that I actually thought I knew it all before I was a parent, and at how many of my pre-baby notions have come back to bite me in the tush!

What has been the most surprising part of being pregnant or a new parent: that falling into being a parent of 2 has been harder then I realized. Its especially hard when my little girl has so many food allergies that I have to cut out so many things out of my diet since she's nursing.
But I also realize that if I hadn't been aware and hadn't 'known' that she had food allergies then I wouldn't be where we are. I'm so thankful that I am an educated parent and know what could bother her.
Wow...I'm just glad that I educated myself on what to expect during pregnancy and birth and that if I hadn't I would've put myself in a situation that I would've regretted.

I'm a new mom, 9 wks and counting. What hasn't been surprising about being a new mom?? He decided to be born 5 wks early - that was the first surprise! How quickly he grows... How incrediably tired I can be at night... I've actually thought I was holding the baby but I was still in bed, rather confused. How wonderful it is to sit and breastfeed. I've been pleasantly surprised how easy it's been for us.

The most surprising part of being a new parent for me is how you easily you can set aside your wants, for the baby's wants or needs, and how easy it is to overcome your own comfort zone to protect your child.
Good question!

After thinking I was a fairly seasoned parent after having one child (who is now 6), I figured the second baby would be the same. The same not in personality, but sleep / eat / teething / growth patterns. WOW WAS I WRONG. Yes, their personalities are like dusk and dawn (not nearly as drastic as night / day) but this baby SLEEPS! He EATS! He has NO TEETH YET! While I knew my kids would be two unique human beings, the thought never ever crossed my mind that so much could be different!

I fell in love with my daughter when she was born...deeper than I thought I could. But that's not the surprising part...It was when my son was born 2 years later that I realized that I had SO MUCH love left to give and then some!! It still amazes me how deep my love is for them...

The most surprising thing for me was finding out after 12 hours of labor that I was going to have a c-section. I had read everything I could get my hands on prior to delivery, but still didn't know much about c-sections, so I was scared to death. Everything turned out fine, though. Sam was a happy, healthy boy with--another surprise--a headful (and I mean FULL:) of hair!

That I can survive on 2 hours of sleep and not murder my husband or two-year-old and still manage to get the laundry put away!

Ha, well, the most surprising thing by far would be my water breaking 6 weeks early, and upon patting myself dry I found the cord coming out first. Needless to say I wasn't planning on an emergency c-section with full general anesthesia.

My favorite part of being pregnant was changing the way I do normal things. I had to change the way I slept, did dishes, did laundry. I love being a new Mommy to a 4 month old. Life is wonderful!

Our son is gift wrapped and ready for delivery. I've felt awe in my life but nothing like this!!

The most amazing thing to me this time around is the fact that I REALLY CAN love another child as much as my first! ;-)
