Contest ArchivesUpdated: Contest for a Medela Nightime Nursing BraAugust 01, 2009UPDATE: And the winner, picked by the folks from Medela, is....Elita. Here's her comment from below: That bra does look comfy. My favorite nighttime nursing memory was once when I was breastfeeding my son in the glider and he was just asleep when my husband walked into the room and woke him up. I tried to "shush" him and rock him back down, but he sat straight up and screamed "Dadadooooo!" He had never said that before and it just struck us as really funny and we started laughing and then he started laughing too.
Would you like a chance to win this lovely blue, nighttime nursing bra made by Medela? It looks so soft, it almost makes me nostalgic for those 3 a.m. feedings! Medela is offering 3 moms a chance to win this bra in recognition of World Breastfeeding Week. So what do you need to do? Leave a comment telling me your favorite nighttime nursing story. And if you're still pregnant, leave a comment about either a crazy dream you've had while pregnant, or how you're managing to sleep at night. The contest runs from August 1st to the 15th. I'll announce a winner on the 16th. (Only entries from the U.S. please). Boob Nursing Top ContestJuly 10, 2009UPDATE: Hello Everyone! I'm a mother of a 28 week preemie! Not being able to nurse him directly I used to pump and bring the milk back to the hospital! After just 2 days my tiny baby started to show interest on the breast! This moved my heart. He started actually nursing 3 days after. I have a couple of NIP stories... Here's the first one... I was at the park with my 3 daughters and my newborn son, and it was meal time! I pull my breast out to feed him and as he was nursing a little boy came to me and started to stare at me! All of the sudden, his mother came to grap him and he seems upset!, the mother then told me it was the first day of weaning baby! He looked at me so sad! I started thinking if my son would be the same way... I'm also his pacifier! I have a hospital grade breast pump @ home but after a while it was impossible to pump and go shopping for example. Since I had to pump every 1.5-2.5 hours to keep my milk supply going while the baby was in NICU I went to Walmart and started shopping. Then I realize that I coulnt wait to pump so I decided to purchase an electic breast pump! I went to the parking lot and started pumping in the car. My husband came to the car and I could tell he was a lil embarrased so he asked me to cover up a little! Anyway I put the shirt down still pumping, we stopped at the red light (I'm still pumping, but I looked like the shirt Madonna had in that video with the pointed boobs!) A car stopped next to us and the guy gave me thumbs up! What I next realized there it was his wife doing the same thing!
Don't you just love this logo? I think it's hilarious. Better yet, Boob, a Swedish company, has a wide range of maternity and nursing clothes. Here's a description of how the nursing tops function. Now for the giveaway contest. For a chance to win this top, leave a comment answering this question: If you're pregnant, tell me why you need this top. And if you've had a baby, tell me your favorite nursing in public story.
Deadline to enter the contest is August 1, the start of Breastfeeding Awareness Week. Contest limited to U.S. entrants. I'll pick the winner based on the following criteria: a fun, clever or poignant story. Enter to Win Some Medela Pads and LanolinAugust 07, 2008Another World Breastfeeding Week contest for you... This time I'm giving away two new Medela products: Tender Care Lanolin (for dry or cracked nipples) and Tender Care Hydro Gel Pads (for severe sore or cracked nipples). Keep in mind, that if breastfeeding is going well, and your baby is latched on properly, breastfeeding shouldn't hurt. It is normal to experience some discomfort at times, but if you find yourself in a lot of pain, get help, and get help fast. Call a lactation consultant. And if it's 3 in the morning, and you don't want to wake anyone up, check out the Kellymom website. It's an excellent resource for looking up any problem you may have; just use the search function in the left hand column. The contest is limited to U.S. residents. Deadline is August 31. To enter, leave a comment answering this question: Who was your biggest source of support for breastfeeding? And if you haven't had your baby yet, do you have the name of a lactation consultant you can call if you need help with breastfeeding?
The Winner of the Medela Freestyle PumpJune 23, 2008
Hi Andi! Thank you for giving me the chance to participate and win the Medela Freestyle. I was and still am really excited upon hearing the good news. It's great to know people at Mamaknowsbreast and Medela care about women and their needs as they venture into motherhood. As a reader from Malaysia, I believe your quest in spreading knowledge on the importance of breastfeeding is truly inspiring! I'm sure you've touched the hearts of women all around the world. Keep up the great work! Thank you and God bless! :) UPDATED: Thank you to everyone who left a comment for a chance to win a Medela Freestyle Pump. I loved reading what you had to say! There really is no shortage to pumping stories! And now...drum roll... the winner is Hope. Congratulations! Here's her comment: I'm due this coming October and I've been reading up on how to provide the best for my baby. My mom exclusively breastfed my brothers and sisters and I, and I'd love to do the same for my baby. The only difference is that my mom didn't have to go to work, whereas I do. So, I've been reading up on breast pumps and I've found that Medela is the best in the market! But it's quite pricey and I don't know if I can afford it. That's why I was ecstatic when I found this contest. It's like a blessing in disguise. A lot of great information and the chance to win a Medela Freestyle Breastpump. It's the most practical solution because it's lightweight and compact, yet has everything I would need to include breast pumping in my daily schedule. I've also been reading on bpa-free bottles and to know Medela has taken this into account just gives me more confidence in the name itself. I really hope to win so that I can always provide the best for my baby. PS: During our last checkup, we found out our baby's a boy! :) BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POST: Ok, all you pumping mamas...here it is. The latest and greatest pump from our friends at Medela. The Freestyle is Medela's first hands-free, double-electric pump. Just attach it to your bra and get back to your emailing and phone calls. It's really small, light-weight and best of all, the Medela bottles are BPA free.

Updated: The Winners of the method Baby ProductsJune 11, 2008UPDATED: Here are the winners: "The most surprising part about becoming a parent: how much my view of the world has changed, including how I both gained additional understanding for my parents and yet also felt additional confusion. " Posted by: Ewokmama "The most surprising thing for me, throughout pregnancy and now while nursing my twins, is how different men and women really are. Physically, my husband can't do as much for the boys as I do (nursing) and emotionally we respond to them in different, but both loving, ways." Posted by: Sally If you won, please email me your mailing address. AND HERE'S THE ORIGINAL POST: I've had allergies all spring. Either that, or a cold. Or maybe both. Who knows. I do know I sometimes get exczema, so I'm always on the lookout for "green" personal care and cleaning products. And here's my latest find...method. Actually, to be clear, method found me. Earlier this spring, the method folks emailed me asking me to host a party at their temporary store in New York City. After doing a bit of due diligence, I decided I liked the company's dedication to non-toxic products. And so, I said, sign me up. (To learn more about this, go to the bottom of the method site, click on either FAQ or Company Info.) The party wasn't your typical "tupperware" fest. In fact, there was little talk of cleaning. Instead, a "mixologist" taught us how to make organic drinks. The Liquid Muse...aka Natalie...made the best mojito I have EVER had. Ever. And fortunately, I'm not pregnant or breastfeeding, so I didn't have to consider anything other than my low tolerance. Here's the recipe for that mojito. Now for the exciting part...I have a giveaway of method's new line of baby and kids' products. You can read about them here on the method blog. The kind folks at method have put together a collection of theses items. To win, please leave a comment answering this question: What has been the most surprising part of being pregnant or a new parent? The deadline to enter this contest is June 25th. I'll be away until then, so you may not see your comment posted until I get back. First off, Adiri is giving away two sets of bottles. Adiri bottles are 100% BPA free...and we all know that's a good thing. Plus, the unique design looks a lot more like a breast than your typical baby bottle. One reminder...if you do want to give your baby a bottle of pumped breast milk or formula, it's best to wait at least a month before introducing a bottle. This gives you a chance to establish your milk supply and your baby to get accustomed to breastfeeding. A set of bottles has three bottles. White is slow flow for 0-3 months; blue is medium flow for 3-6 months; and orange is fast flow for 6+ months. To win one of the sets of bottles, leave a comment here answering this question: Why do you need these bottles?

Leave A Comment and Enter to Win Weleda Baby Lotion and SoapMarch 13, 2008When our kids were newborns, I hated bath time. I was scared. In my eyes, water plus baby equaled danger. I wouldn't bathe them unless another adult was around. As a result, the kids sometimes went more than a week without a bath. But it didn't really matter. They weren't all that dirty. And besides, "baths dry out the skin," I rationalized. Once we hit the sandbox years all that changed. Apple sauce and yogurt made baths a necessity. So I figured out various tricks to make things feel less precarious. My all time best move-- using a towel under their armpits to lift them out of the bath. It worked wonders. And these days, there are definitely high points in the bath routine. The boys now ask to take a "brothers' bath." Together, they bathe their ducks and "wash" the tub walls. There are even comedic moments. The Bear (2 years old) once announced, "Mommy, a nugget." (That's his word for a little poop). And sure enough, I found a marble-sized green ball in the water. Even so, I sometimes avoid bath time for a different reason-- pure exhaustion. With a 2 year old and a 3 year old, baths involve an incredible amount of wrangling-- into the bathroom, clothes off, into the tub, spash splash plash, out of the tub, moisturize, diaper on before there's a pee on the floor, pajamas on. It's like herding recalcitrant cattle. But maybe I don't need to dread all of this so much. Weleda, the makers of organic personal care and medicinal products recently contacted me to tell me about their items for babies. So far, I've tried the Calendula Lotion and Calendula Cream Bath. Both have a lovely scent that reminds me of a spa. I can't tell you what the kids think of these products-- we're away and I'm not about to try anything new on them while we're not home. I did, however, test the products on my own skin, which is extremely sensitive and prone to exczema. And so far so good. (But before you try any new products on a child with rash prone skin or allergies, check with your pediatrician). Weleda has offered to give away five sets of the lotion and cream bath. So I'm holding a little contest. Leave a comment with your favorite bath time story. I'll then pick five winners at random. The contest deadline is March 30th.
